BJP Lucknow Stages Protest Over Kharge’s Remarks Against PM Modi, Demands Public Apology

Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lucknow Metropolitan unit staged a protest on Monday against an allegedly objectionable remark made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a public apology.

Led by BJP Lucknow Metropolitan president Anand Dwivedi, thousands of party workers and supporters participated in the demonstration. The protest began at the statue site of former Uttar Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon, popularly known as Babujee, and proceeded towards Hazratganj crossing. Protesters raised slogans against the Congress and condemned the reported remark.

Addressing the gathering, Dwivedi described Kharge’s alleged comment as condemnable, saying that a person holding the position of a national party president should maintain dignity and decorum in public discourse. He said political differences were natural in a democracy but should not lead to the use of objectionable language.

Dwivedi also accused the Congress of making such statements out of political frustration. He said that under Modi’s leadership, India was progressing towards development and self-reliance, adding that the opposition should raise questions on the basis of policies and performance rather than personal remarks.

He asserted that voters understood the conduct and working styles of political parties and would respond through democratic means. Referring to the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Dwivedi expressed confidence that voters would judge the Congress and other opposition parties on their political conduct.

According to BJP media in-charge Anurag Sahu, several party leaders and elected representatives participated in the demonstration. Those present included Legislative Council member Mukesh Sharma, MLA Dr Neeraj Bora, general secretaries Ghanshyam Das Agrawal and Satyendra Singh, Tinku Sonkar, vice-presidents Vinayak Pandey and Manvendra Singh, Sita Negi, and Mahila Morcha president Archana Sahu, along with other office-bearers and party workers.

The BJP demanded a public apology from the Congress president over the reported remarks.
